The Benefits of Reading Surah Waqiah

Surah Waqiah is a chapter in the Qur'an that offers numerous healing benefits to those who read it. It is particularly renowned for its ability to alleviate financial difficulties and fulfill one's needs.

According to a hadith narrated by our Prophet (SAW), "Whoever recites Surah Waqiah at night will never encounter poverty" (Ibn Sunni 620). Another hadith states, "Surah Waqiah is the Surah of Wealth, so recite it and teach it to your children" (Ibn Asakir).

Esteemed Islamic scholars and Shaikh Ul Hadith recommend making a habit of reading Surat Waqiah every night after Isha. While some suggest reading it after Maghreb, the preferred timing is after Isha.

If you find yourself in a time of financial hardship, it is advisable to start reciting Surah Al-Waqiah. Before starting, remember to read Durood/Salawat Ibrahimi (3 times or 11 times), and after completion, offer Durood/Salawat Ibrahimi again (3 times or 11 times). This practice not only enhances the ease of recitation but also ensures that your supplication reaches the throne of Allah SWT. Additionally, sending blessings to our Prophet (SAW) brings barakah into your life.

It is important to remember that Allah SWT is always with us and will never abandon us in any circumstance beyond our capacity. He provides for us in unforeseen ways that surpass our imagination.

Revelation History

According to Quranic commentators, Surah Waqiah was revealed during the Meccan period of Prophet Muhammad's (Sal Allaho Alehi Wasallam) prophethood, although some argue that a portion of it was revealed during the Medinan period. There is some difference of opinion among commentators regarding which verses specifically were revealed during the Medinan period.

In terms of chronological order, the traditional Egyptian chronology places Surah Waqiah as the 41st chapter after Al-Tur, while the Nöldeke Chronology (proposed by orientalist Theodor Nöldeke) positions it as the 46th chapter. However, its placement in the Quran, which is not determined solely by the order of revelation, is as the 56th chapter, following Ar-Rahman, which discusses a partially related topic. Some commentators, such as Ahmad ibn Ajiba, consider Al-Waqi'a to be a continuation of Ar-Rahman.
